Exercise to ENERGIZE!
Too tired to exercise? You might want to rethink that attitude! A recent study from the University of Georgia, published in the November 2006 issue of Psychological Bulletin found that regular (not the on again off again) physical activity actually decreases fatigue and increases energy. The researchers analyzed data from 70 previous studies, including a total of more than 6,800 participants. More than 90 % of the studies found that people who completed a regular exercise program ended up less tired than those who didn't exercise.
The energy boost from exercise was even bigger than what has been found with some stimulant drugs. And the benefit seemed to extend not only to healthy adults, but also to those with chronic conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and fibromyalgia. So the next time energy levels start to dip, instead of reaching for coffee or a candy bar, try lacing up your walking shoes!
