JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT

St. Bernard is fortunate enough to have a strong volunteer group  who enjoys working with our classes to teach them about Junior Achievement and its involvement in the community. This year we have volunteers for grades 4,6,7, and 8. Below is a snapshot of the classes.

Grade 8:  Enterprise in Action: Mrs. Peggy Story has been teaching this class since we began Junior Achievement seven years ago. She is employed by biggs and has brought her experiences to the 8th grade class and has taught them much about how companies run, various types of companies, corporations, and interests. The students really enjoy working with Mrs. Story. She will be teaching the class again this year.

Grade 7: Personal Finance:  Junior Achievement for the  7th grade is Personal Finance. This unit will  teach students about saving money, making investments, and job interviewing, among other topics.  I am looking for a volunteer to teach this program to the 7th Grade. A kit is provided for you, including all the materials and teacher's aids needed to complete the 8 week course, which is one day a week. Please consider volunteering your time to teach Personal Finance to our 7th Graders. They are a fun group of students. Call the office or email me to get started.

Grade 6: Global Marketplace: Mr. Richard Plageman has also been with our program since it began eight years ago. However, this year he is not able to teach Junior Achievement. Global Marketplace is the theme for Grade 6. This unit teaches the students about the global economy and how world trade works and impacts their lives.  They enjoy learning about trade markets throughout the world.

Grade 5: Our Nation: Students will learn about how a business operates in the U.S. economy, as well as understand sales presentations, managing a business, and what production of items involves. Mrs. Eileen Lorenz will teach this class

Grade 4: Our Region: Mrs. Gardner has been working with the 4th grade since we began Junior Achievement, with one year teaching the 3rd grade class. She does a terrific job in getting the students involved in the process of learning about economics on a state level, what the resources of a union are, and the many decisions that are needed to create and run a business.

Grade 3: Our City: Students learn how businesses operate and make city planning decisions. This is a fun, interesting program that the students thoroughly enjoy learning about how a city works with businesses. Mrs. Valerie Miranda has offered her time to teach this class again this year.
